about
One winter night last year I dreamed of a very dear teacher who had held a light to my life, and the lives of many others. She was my Art History professor Dr. Roslynne Wilson, and she was one of the most dedicated teachers I have ever met. Teaching was her mission. Not only did she make certain that we who attended her classes received a rich and challenging education, she worked hard to open the doors of arts education to the underprivileged youth of the inner city. I was her assistant on that project, called Pathways.
Sadly, within a few years of my graduation, Roslynne developed a devastating form of dementia. It incapacitated her from teaching while only in her fifties, then swiftly left her bedridden and unresponsive. She had lived a full and generative life - but she had so much more light to give.
The morning after my dream, I searched for information about Roslynne, and learned that she had passed away, just a few days earlier, on my birthday, January 22. She was 67.
Later that evening, these words poured out of me at the mic.
I dedicate them to you, Roz.

lyrics
So much
Too much
So much
Is it ever too much?
It all piles up -
Good and bad.
All piles up
And drives you mad.
So much… so much… so much
Is it ever …ever too, too much?
One heart
One voice
One love
And is it ever enough?
Ever enough?
Sometimes it feels like
It will all dry up -
I’ll lose my mind.
Sometimes it feels like
It just won’t fly -
Will you come down?
Too much
Too much
Is it ever too much?
You were in my dreams again
What does that mean, my friend?
You were in my dreams today
I don’t even know what to say…
Ah, too much
Can't be too much...
For one light
I want more!
One song
One life:
Is it ever enough?
Was it ever enough?
It goes so fast.
I found out today you were gone.
I found out today you were gone.
I found out today
I’ll never see your face
Ever see your face again
My friend.
